Of Brentwood, on Thursday, January 17, 2002, age 91; daughter of the late Bernard J. and Mary (Burke) Johnston; she was preceded in deaths by brothers, Martin B., Dr. Bernard J. and sister Jane P. Saunders; she is survived by nephew Martin Johnston Saunders (Rosanne), great-nephew, Martin R. Saunders and great-niece Clare A. Saunders. Born in Mt. Oliver, Miss Johnston received her Teachers Certificate from Indiana St. Teachers College in 1930 and was a graduate of Duquesne University, where she received her Bachelors Degree in 1933 and her Masters Degree in 1949, both in Education. She dedicated her life to Elementary education, teaching third grade for 45 years in the Mt. Oliver Public School. She retired in 1975. Friends received at the JOHN F. SLATER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Prayer Tuesday Morning at 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Sylvester Church at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Vincentian de Marillac, 5300 Stanton Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15206.
