Obituary Condolences

On Tuesday, June 11, 2002, age 93 of Advance, NC, formerly of Pittsburgh and Hilton Head, SC. Born July 22, 1908 in Pittsburgh, the son of the late George Scott Baton and Mary H. Bickley; husband of the late Caroline Murray Baton and Frances Norton Baton; father of George Scott Baton, II and his wife, Janet of Ligonier, PA, Louise Baton Coleman and her husband, Jack and Linda Baton Pool, all of Pittsburgh; grandfather of Elizabeth Lydon, Timothy Coleman, Laura Huber, Caroline Coleman, Heather Pool, Russell Pool and the late Charles Scott Baton; brother of Eleanor Baton Scheetz of Pittsburgh and the late Louise Baton Meyer; also survived by five great-grandchildren. Mr. Baton graduated from Shady Side Academy in 1926 and was a trustee from 1937-1967, and graduated from Princeton University in 1930 and served several terms as president of the Princeton Alumni Association of Western PA. Prior to his retirement in 1970, Mr. Baton was the President of Baton Coal Co., Greensburg-Connellsville Coal & Coke Co. and Farm Coal Co., and a Director of Joy Manufacturing Co., Vulcan, Inc., H. K. Porter Co., Sharon Steel, Old Republic Insurance Co., Shenango, Inc. and Dollar Bank. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, a past member of the Shadyside Presbyterian Church, the Rolling Rock Club, the Duquesne Club, the HYP Club, the University Club, the Bear Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head and the Bermuda Run Country Club in Advance, and was a life member of the Western Pennsylvania Coal Association.
