Obituary Condolences

Age 81, of Bloomfield, on Sunday, May 5, 2013. Beloved husband of Carol H. (Hustead- Wilson) Bierce; father of Renee (Steve) Baker, Christine (Kenneth) Batko, retired Navy Lt., Mark (Martha) Bierce of VA, retired Navy Chief, Michael (Karen) Bierce, Carol's two sons, Alan (Cheryl) Wilson of Uniontown, Roger (Michelle) Wilson of E. Liverpool, OH; also ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; son of the late Stanley and Pauline (Kolewicz) Biercewicz; brother of the late Alphonse Biercewicz and Walter Bierce. Friends received at the WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 216 44th St., Lawrenceville, Saturday 1 until 8 p.m. Funeral service on Saturday at 8 p.m. Ed attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Grade School Central Catholic and received his Baccalaureate from University of Pgh. in 1981. He enlisted in the US Army and served two tours of duty in the Korean War. The first with the 3rd Recon co. 3rd inf. div., the 2nd co. 279th inf. regt. 45th inf. div. tank co. 65th inf. Puerto Rican (borinqueneer) regt. of the 3rd inf. div. He became a City of Pittsburgh Police Officer in 1956 and retired in 1993 after serving 38 years. Ed is a member of the FOP Fort Pitt Lodge No. 1, life member of the society of the 3rd inf. div. 278th and 45th inf. regt. Korean War Veteran's Assoc. of Western Pennsylvania (General Matthew B. Ridgeway Chapter 74); the National Korean War Veteran's Assoc., American Legion Post 710, VFW Post 278 and Disabled American Veteran's PA 76.
