BRENNAN EDWIN FRANCIS
Aged 91, died peacefully at home on Thursday, February 11th. A resident of Whitehall for 60 years, he served the public as a member of the Borough Council for 20 years and as Mayor of Whitehall for 14 years. He authored the book, "A History of Whitehall Borough and It's Government: An Insider's View" which has recently been reprinted and is available at the Whitehall Library. He leaves his beloved wife Elizabeth C. (Rose) Brennan and his daughter Vickie, her husband Rob Pratt and his granddaughter Eliza Brennan-Pratt of Wayland, MA and his daughter Carla of Santa Cruz, CA; his sister Evelyn Keenan lives in Wexford and his brother James of the North Hills predeceased him. He grew up during the depression in Fineview in the Northside in a house built by his grandfather. He graduated from Allegheny High in 1935 and from Slippery Rock State College in 1942. He began his professional career as a reporter for the Butler Eagle and was hired by the Pittsburgh Post Gazette in 1943 where he was a general assignment reporter working on some of the leading crime and court stories of the day. In 1955 he joined the advertising agency, Ketchum, McLeod & Grove, and retired from Ketchum as Vice President of Public Relations in 1981. Heinz Foods and Mobay were two of the clients who followed him into his consulting practice. An avid professional football fan, he recorded the play-by-play for the Steelers at all the home games for more than 20 years. He and his wife Betty enjoyed international travel to more than 60 countries. He never visited a country he didn't like and found places like the former Soviet Union and Cuba fascinating. Friends will be received at the JOHN F. SLATER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, on Sunday, February 21 from 2-4 p.m. A Memorial Service and reception will be held from 2-4pm on Monday, February 22 at South Hills Country Club, 4305 Brownsville Rd, Whitehall 15236.
