Obituary Condolences

WAGNER
FERN
Age 97, died peacefully on Sunday evening, November 18, at Heather Ridge Home in North Canton, Ohio. She was born in Akron, Ohio, the youngest of five children and the only girl. Her father passed away when she was only 14 months old; her brothers provided love and good times when it was their turn to care for her. She marveled at how hard her mother worked to raise her children on her own. Fern had many interests. She played competitive community basketball after high school, she loved to quilt and bake. Her love of animals began as a child. She always had pets, often taking in strays. She had a kind heart and a warm smile and will be missed by many. Fern began a career with the S.S. Kresge Company (forerunner of Kmart) as a statistician in Akron then moved to the district office in Pittsburgh. Soon after she met her husband, Dick, a widower with two young daughters. After they began dating, Kresge's moved Fern to Atlanta to help set up a district office. Dick proposed and went to Atlanta where they were married and he brought her back to Pittsburgh. Fern continued to work for Kresge's helping them open new stores and retired with 28 years of service. Fern was preceded in death by her parents, William and Caroline Herbruck; her four brothers; and by her loving husband, Richard. She is survived by her two daughters, Jacqueline (Louis) Pfeiffer and Suellen Wagner; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces, and many friends. A graveside service will be held Monday, November 26, at 11:00 a.m. at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Pittsburgh. Rev Louis Pfeiffer, her son-in-law, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local chapter of the Humane Society or to Mt. Hope Cemetery, 1338 Sweitzer Ave., Akron, OH 44301.
