JEAN E. (POLICHIO) KRESS Obituary
KRESS JEAN E. (POLICHIO)

Age 84, of Shaler Twp., on Friday, June 8, 2018, passed away peacefully at her home after her long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Jean entered the world with her fraternal twin sister, Jane Pellegrini on September 25, 1933, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Anthony and Esther (Spina) Polichio. She was a graduate of Schenley High School and the University of Pittsburgh, where she majored in education. After graduating college, she became a teacher with the Pittsburgh Public Schools and taught at Cowley Elementary School for 15 years. While teaching at Cowley, she met Edward J. Kress, who would become her beloved husband of 47 years. Jean was the loving mother of son Ed Kress of Shaler Twp. and daughter Lynn (Eric) Hutchison of Peters Township and grandmother to their children Nolan and Caleb; sister of Frances (Evan) Kissick, Connie Polichio, Jane (Casimir) Pellegrini, Esther (Robert) Dick, the late Rose (Lou) Ferraro, Germaine (Joseph) Bellissimo and Dante Polichio; and is survived by many nieces and nephews. Jean was a wonderful, caring and committed mother, who always strived to do what was best for her family. She adored her family and provided them a loving home, being the consummate homemaker. Throughout her life, Jean enjoyed cooking, hosting family and friends in her home and spending time with her six sisters. Jean and her sisters Rose and Connie were even lucky enough to be present at the 1960 game 7 of the World Series to see Bill Mazeroski's walk-off winning home run. Jean suffered from Alzheimer's Disease for more than sixteen years, during which she became the center of her family's attention. Her battle with that disease only strengthened the family's resolve to fulfill her wish that she would always be loved and cared for her in home until her death. Jean's family would like to thank all those involved who assisted in making her wish a reality with a special thanks to Linda Sokol, who spent nine years assisting the family in their care for Jean, Susan Janusz, Compassionate Care Hospice (especially Whitney), Caring Hospice, and St. Margaret Geriatric Care Center (especially Dr. David T. Yuan). Further, the family would like to thank the businesses of GNC (McIntyre Sq.) and the Vitamin Shoppe (McKnight Rd.) in supplying the nutritional supplements and advice that helped with Jean's quality of life. Jean was the heart of her family and her passing leaves a void that will never be filled. The family will hold a viewing for Jean at the BOCK FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 1500 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw, PA on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Church, Glenshaw on Tuesday at 10 am.
