Age 83, of Squirrel Hill, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at North Hills Passavant Hospital. Born December 25, 1929, the son of Nicholas and Christina Manolatos Vondas, he was raised in Hazelwood. He was a waiter for 10 years at the Duquesne Club and a journalist for 45 years. He is survived by his wife, Laura Baccelli Vondas; a daughter, Maria Vondas Connelly (Coleman); grandsons, Coleman Jerry and Colin; a sister, Olga Mervosh (George); nephews, George Mervosh III (Sandy), Nicholas, Jason Konley (Linda); and nieces, Stephanie Roush, Christina Smart (Al), Marianna Stoneburner (Rick), Alaina Lubbert (Bill), Carla Bartels Baccelli (Zeb); and a host of great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by grandson, Christian Liam Connelly, a sister, Helen Zorbas, and brother-in-law, Steven Zorbas. Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC., 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street on Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Friday in the Main Sanctuary of Shadyside Presbyterian Church at 10:00 a.m.
