Obituary Condolences


Age 85, of North Port, FL, formerly from Pittsburgh, PA, completed her earthly journey to find peace with the Lord on June 7, 2018, with loved ones at her side. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward P. Kindlin. She was the loving mother of Edward P. Jr. (Debbie), Laura Anderson (Gary), Kathleen Hodgdon (Pete), Carolyn (Bob) Bourgeois, Kevin, Christine (Bill) Roper, Keith (Val), and Craig (Lana); caring grandmother of 12 grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; and a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William A. and Caroline Sigmund, a brother, William (Theresa) Sigmund and is survived by her sister Carolyn (Henry) Shields and brother Ralph (Karen) Sigmund. She graduated from Carlow College in 1955 with a BSN in Nursing and obtained a Master's in Public Health Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh in 1976. Her education led her in many directions. Laura had the opportunity to learn psychiatric nursing at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. Upon graduation, she taught nursing at Carlow, worked with Dr. Benjamin Spock and then acted as Director of Family Planning at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh for many years. She was a certified school nurse and was Director of Health Services at Carlow University before moving to Erie. Laura worked as a rehabilitation nurse and clinical case manager at Hamot Medical Center. She then completed her career as Director of Admissions at Millcreek Community Hospital. Laura was a devout Catholic, and nourished those around her with her love and her strong sense of faith. She had endless patience, a sensitive soul and strong convictions. She was active in numerous clubs in the Lazy River community in North Port, FL, and cherished the friendships she made there. She adopted St. Jude as the family patron saint and shared his story with others. One of her favorite prayers was "May all your hurdles be seen as God's blessings in disguise." She taught us to love, brought joy to all who knew her and will be dearly missed. A Memorial Mass in Celebration of her life will be held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Pleasant Hills, PA on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or the .
