83, born in Boston, MA on September 13, 1930, passed away on March 9, 2014. Prior to his retirement in 1990, he was employed by Westinghouse as a nuclear physicist and strategic planner on diverse nuclear research programs. He is survived by his wife, Betty Chorba Vachon; daughter, Karen (Joseph) Vachon-Thaner of Pittsburgh; daughter, Eileen (Ronald ) Vachon-Vierra of Arizona; son, Mark (Karen ) of Massachusetts; son, David of Pittsburgh; son, Paul of Arizona; son, Steven (Michele) of Pittsburgh; and daughter, Judith of Pittsburgh. Lawrence was blessed with ten grandchildren. He also leaves a stepson, James Chorba of Texas; stepson, Mark (Diann) Chorba of Virginia; and a stepdaughter, Carrie (Kevin) Smith of West Virginia. In addition to ten step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren, he is survived by a brother, Robert of Florida, as well as many cousins, nephews and nieces from the New England states and Canada. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME, INC., 580 Circle Drive, Belle Vernon/Rostraver Twp. (724-929-7934), where a Blessing Service will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Anne, 1870 Rostraver Road, Belle Vernon, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.
