BURGUNDER LYDIA ROSE (McMAHON)

Of McKees Rocks and Brookline, born August 14, 1920, in McKees Rocks, PA, died June 10, 2018, age 97. Beloved wife for 68 years of the late William (Bill) A. Burgunder. Loving mother of Ann F., Paul R., William A., Jr., Thomas J., Mark G. (Cynthia), and Albert T. (Anne); grandmother of Dr. Lauren M., Mark G., Jr., Ryan W., Quinten A., and Xavien I. Burgunder. Sister of June T. Weixel, and the late Fr. Joseph P. McMahon, Sr. Mary Agnes McMahon OP, Mary Ellen Leon, Paul Carey, Vincent, and Patricia McMahon. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Prior to World War II, Lydia worked in Washington, D.C. and then with the National Labor Relations Board in Pittsburgh. Following the war, she married Bill Burgunder and together they created a loving environment in which to raise six children. She was known for her patience, her unconditional love, and her warm personality. Her home, the center of many celebrations, was always open to family and to her children's school and neighborhood friends. Lydia and Bill were founding parishioners of St. Pius X Catholic Church where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. She was a member of Duquesne Women's Guild and a longtime on-air radio volunteer for Radio Information Service, a non-profit radio station operated by and for people who cannot read print information. Family and friends received Tuesday, June 12, 2018, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.at BEINHAUER FUNERAL HOME, 412-531-4000, 2630 West Liberty Avenue. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 3040 Pioneer Ave. on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Moon Township.
