Age 56, of Pittsburgh, on Sunday, August 2, 2009 at home. Born May 19, 1953 in Washington D.C. Beloved eldest son of Dean and Ruth Eversmeyer. Beloved husband of Janna Smith Eversmeyer and father of Alex Michael and James Drury Eversmeyer. Dear eldest brother of Bruce Eversmeyer (Candace Cloud); Laura Wood (Ben); Deanne Eversmeyer (Rich Ellis); Teresa O'Callaghan (Steven); John Eversmeyer (Doris); Mari Hurd (Marc Parker); and Greg Eversmeyer (Amy). Beloved son-in-law of Robert and Janet Smith and brother-in-law of Lisa Goss (Marty) and Steven Smith (Kate Ellis). Loving uncle of many nieces and nephews. Private interment. Memorial service 4pm Saturday, August 22 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 5801 Hampton Street, Pittsburgh. Mike, to this day your are missed. You gave a person so much insight into Pittsburgh and educated those without making them feel apart of the subject of interest. Your calmness and passion for Pittsburgh, made a native "burgher" like me very inspired and proud. I wanted you to know that we finished the building the way you envisioned it. It got great reviews and is up for an award. I only wish you were here to see it. We bring you up from time to time and your thought of everytime I enter the building. We only knew each other for a couple of years, but it just goes to show the impression you made on those who were around you.

Oh, my, what a sad day this is, for Michael and his family and for the city and the architectural profession. I sat a few desks away from Michael when I worked at Perkins Eastman, and he was an amazing person, so smart and so incredibly and deeply knowledgeable, such a tremendous resource. He spoke so often of his family and was such a good guy...while we lost touch after our careers moved apart, he was not forgotten, and will not be, by those who knew him.

I worked for Mike as an intern the summer of 1995 at the city. He made a profound impact on me as a city planner and as a person. The example he set with his dedication, professionalism and patience were remarkable things I still reflect upon. To me he was one of those lucky people that loved what he did so much that it was not work, and he was the best at what he did.

My life would not be anything like it is if he had not been a part of it. Thanks to him I met the love of my life. I met her on the bus ride home from the intership he gave one night.

I am so sorry for you loss.

I took an architectural preservation class from Mr. Eversmeyer at Chatham and I truly enjoyed my time in his class. It was obvious the passion and love he had for the subject and he openend my eyes to so many things. With my deepest respect in memory of Mr. Eversmeyer I offer my sympathy to his family. I have known Mike Eversmeyer since we both served on the board of Preservation Pittsburgh when he worked for the Historic Review Commission.His work as an advocate for the preservation of historic structures in Pittsburgh and his knowledge of the history of our city was phenomenal.It will be hard to find someone else to fill his shoes.His postcard history of Pittsburgh was remarkable and hopefully he had started the next volume in the city so that it can be published.Let us hope there are others who will take up his cause of historic prervation and continue the work he had started. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

My wife and I were Mike's clients and we mourn his passing. Mike designed two additions for our house, which is a historic landmark, and they are beautifully compatible with the original structures to which they are appended. He was always patient with our many iterations and had the rare gift of knowing how, and when, to listen. He was a rarity in a city where so few care about its rich store of historic structures and he will be missed. Our sympathies to Mike's family and please be assured that his work is his significant and tangible legacy.
