Patricia, 92, of Oakmont died June 1, 2018 at Presbyterian SeniorCare, Oakmont with her family by her side. Beloved wife of Dr. Donald G. Birrell of 65 years; dear mother of Andrew (Nancy) Birrell, Jeffrey (Diane Duffy) Birrell and Janice (Barton) French; devoted grandmother of Dr. James (Sarah) Birrell, Ian Birrell Esq., Natalie (Pritish) Gandhi, Clarke Birrell, Kirsten French, Grace Birrell and Emerson Birrell; great-grandmother of Dahlia Gandhi. Patricia was a proud nurse, earning her Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Pittsburgh. Using her nursing skills, she taught early motherhood classes to expectant mothers in Oakmont and Penn Hills. Pat was a member of Oakmont Presbyterian Church, Oakmont Country Club, and the Oakmont Garden Club, where she was a founding member, served as president twice during her membership, and also served as vice president. She was credited with helping to establishing the Dark Hollow Woods conservation and worked tirelessly to maintain Dark Hollow as a community preserve. Pat established the gardening with seniors program, a group that she enjoyed while a resident at SeniorCare in Oakmont. Along with her love of gardening she enjoyed decorating the Oakmont Country Club on various holidays for over 30 years, bringing a joyful spirit especially during the Christmas holiday. Pat was an avid golfer and enjoyed many rounds of golf at Oakmont Country Club with her husband and many friends. She had a birdie on the first hole at Oakmont on her 90th birthday. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service conducted by Rev. Dr. Stephen Wilson on Saturday, June 16, 2018, 11 a.m. at the Oakmont Presbyterian Church, 415 Pennsylvania Ave. Oakmont 15139. If desired memorials may be made to the Oakmont Garden Club P.O. Box 404, Oakmont PA 15139.
