Rachel was a graduate of Plum High School, where she was an outstanding runner in track and cross-country, qualifying for the state championships twice for cross-country; afterwards she earned her Bachelor's degree in Finance, with a minor in French and a Certificate in International Business from the University of Pittsburgh. Rachel loved to travel, spending a semester abroad at the American University in Bulgaria, and returned later to travel through Europe. Rachel was proud to work with her father, John, at his business and had worked as a waitress for Lot 17 in Bloomfield. After being diagnosed with osteosarcoma in June 2008, which started with a tumor in her fibula, she received extensive chemotherapy treatments through the years, along with surgeries to her lungs, brain, and spine. Despite all of this, Rachel always kept her positive attitude and love of life. Rachel's family would like to thank her Doctor's, especially Dr. Hussein Tawbi, Dr. Mark Goodman, Dr. Matthew Schuchert, Dr. Johnathan Engh, and all the UMPC and Hillman Center Nurses and Medical Staff that helped her through her journey. Friends will be received 6-8 p.m. Thursday and Friday 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC. (MONROEVILLE/ PLUM CHAPEL), corner of (445) Beatty Rd. and 48 North, Monroeville (412-856-4747). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Joy Church on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private at Plum Creek Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Rachel's name to Sarcoma Foundation of America or the Plum Mustang Alumni's: Stampede in the Park.
