I recently came across this obituary and had the pleasure of reading about Big Al. He sounds like the kind of guy you could depend on to be straight forward and honest with you. We all can use friends like that. I hope friends and family of Big Al treasure great memories of him and draw a measure of comfort knowing that he is in God's memory.

Thank you for such a heartwarming life story. I am so looking forward to seeing him on the "last day" that Jesus spoke of when he promised that the resurrection is to take place. It sounds like Big Al lived life in a big way, and I am sure he will be wearing a big smile on that big day. Take courage and look to that promised new earth.

It hurts to lose such a joyful and happy soul, so please take comfort from Jesus' words at John 11:24, 25. I know it brings me comfort. I truly hopes it helps you too!

I am so sorry for your loss--because of this wonderful obit, I feel almost like I knew the man.
I wrote a very similar obit for my dad, who died in 2007. An excerpt: "Jim was known to devour paperback books in as little as 2 hours. He was a fan of HO-scale trains, Handel's Messiah, Diet Coke, Dick Francis, the Red Sox, the Giants, and the Rangers. He bore a disturbing resemblance to the actor Wilford Brimley, and he had an inexplicable fondness for Kathie Lee Gifford." I think that he and Big Al would have gotten along like a house on fire.
I hope that Big Al is getting into all kinds of trouble up above!

What an inspiring reminder to be who you are, say what you think, do what you have to do, and heartily savor every pleasure, big or small, that life sends your way! Al unexpectedly touched my life this morning. I'll be having a beer and a shot this evening in his memory.
September 30, 2014
never met Al but I hate the Kardashians too! I told my son yesterday ketchup doesn't belong on hotdogs. Al sounds like a guy I would have loved to hang around with. I think our view of the world especially dumbasses were quite similar. David Ligon,Trinidad,Tx.

I don't know your dad/family. This article showed up on my Facebook. I am writing to say that your father seemed like am amazing man that touched many people. Also keeping people on there toes when he was around. I would loved to have known him as we have several of the same qualities..lol. I had both tears and smiles reading his obituary, I think you captured him wonderfully as I feel as though I know him. My deepest condolences to you and your family for your loss. I pray that in time y'all can find the peace and strength to reminice about Big AL, all the stories from his past that have brought y'all joy and laughter over the years, and they bring you comfort instead of pain. Condolences from Canada. Your Tribute has done exactly what I'm sure you intended it to do - given those who knew & loved your father ... and those of us who are complete strangers ... a fully realized portrait of the man that he was.
I'm sure he'd be proud of you for that ... even if there's no way he'd actually have articulated it out loud! My dad was born in 1930 & I lost him a very long time ago. I have visions of him & Big Al grabbing a beer together, there's so much in what you wrote that feels familiar!

I heard Big Al's amazingly written and heart-felt obituary read on the radio this morning in Salt Lake City, Utah so I thought I would find the online version and leave a message...
Big Al sounds like an amazing person and a total hell-cat! When I get home I will have a shot of whiskey in his honor. Admiration and love goes out to his family, friends and the girls at Silky"s Gentleman club.

My condolences for your loss. I didn't know "Big Al" and I don't know any of his family, but a friend shared this wonderfully written obit on Facebook. It is so wonderfully descriptive of this man, who is obviously well-loved, and oh so humorous. The "I Can't Believe It's not Butter" containers reminded me of my mother. May you all find comfort in the wonderful memories you must have of your father and may he rest in peace. Today my dad would have been 87 -- maybe they can get together up there and have a shot and a beer together.

I am not sure what prompted me to read this obituary but I am so glad that I did.
It almost feels as though I have known Big Al my entire life and he reminds me so much of my grandfather, that its spooky. Both lived life on their terms and spoke two languages, English and Profane.
I can only imagine my beloved grandfather greeting Big Al at the pearly gates and both painting the air blue with their language but having the time of their lives doing so.
Vaya con dios, Big Al. I wish that I had known you.
