Obituary Condolences Flowers

Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 with her sons by her side after a brief illness at Meadowcrest Nursing Facility where she was in residence for the past 19 months. Beloved wife of the late William J. Balas, Sr.; loving mother of William J. Balas, Jr. of Jefferson Hills, Deborah (Robert) Knudson of Cherry, AZ and Gregory (Otilia) Balas of Phoenix, AZ. Rita was a graduate of Duquesne University Class of 1942. She was a legacy member of St. Thomas A Becket parish where she also was a member of the Christian Mothers and Ladies of Charity. In 1993, she received the Mother Teresa Award from Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh for her heartfelt service. She was a faithful longtime volunteer of Jefferson Hills Manor in Jefferson Hills. The family will always be grateful for the wonderfully loving, tender and professional care she received from the entire staff of Meadowcrest, which she regarded as her "second home and family". Friends received Saturday and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the GRIFFITH MORTUARY, INC., 5636 Brownsville Road, Broughton- Curry-South Park Twp., Funeral Prayer Monday 9:15 AM with Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas A Becket Church at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Thomas A Becket Building Fund.
