88, of St. Simons Island, formally of Scottdale, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006 at his residence. He was born December 26, 1917 in Pittsburgh, PA, the youngest son of the late Thomas Rhett Heyward Jr. and Marguerite Busch Heyward. He was a graduate of Shady Side Academy and Cornell University, Class of 1939, where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering and was an All American soccer player. He attained the rank of Lieutenant in the Navy during World War II. He was later employed by Duraloy Blaw-Knox, Scottdale, PA formerly and then known as The Duraloy Company founded by his father in 1924. He retired from Duraloy Blaw-Knox in 1982 as V.P. of Engineering and Technical Director. He was a member of St. Simons Presbyterian Church of St. Simons Island and St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church of Scottdale, PA. He was a member of the St. Simons Rotary Club, Ivy League, Military Officers of America Association, The University Club of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Athletic Association, Sea Island Club, Pike Run Country Club, Greensburg Country Club, and Pleasant Valley Country Club. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jacqueline McCormick Heyward, four daughters, Jacqueline Hart Heyward and Barbara Heyward Penn both of Jones Mill, PA, Victoria Heyward Barnhart of Latrobe, PA, and Leslie Heyward Smodic of St. Simons Island, GA; eight grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Rhett Heyward III. Family will hold a visitation on Monday, November 6th, from 7:00 ? 9:00 PM at the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring Street, Scottdale, PA. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 7th, at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Scottdale, PA a fellowship reception following the memorial service will be held at Carson's Premier Catering on Pittsburgh and Broadway Street in Scottdale. The family suggests memorials be made to either the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Georgia, 3836 Johnston Street, Brunswick, GA 31521 or Hospice Of Golden Isles Inc., 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31521
