Frank "Mack" McClelland Cooper, 84, of Slippery Rock, PA (Worth Twp.), passed away at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, Friday, April 1, 2011. Born New Castle, PA (Lawrence County) on August 6, 1926, to Frank J. Cooper and Fanny Gill Cooper. He married Betty Patterson Cooper on March 16, 1951. He graduated in 1951 from Penn State University and was a member of the Delta Theta Sigma Fraternity. He was a self-employed Farmer and along with his wife and children owned and operated Cooper's Lake Campground for over forty years. Among other events at the Campground they host the annual Pennsic War for the Society of Creative Anachronism. This annual event hosts approximately 11,000 individuals traveling into their campground from all over the world for a two week period. The Society is a non- profit organization that researches, recreates and reenacts middle age society as well as enjoying great fellowship among the membership. Slippery Rock High School and Slippery Rock University regularly hold their cross-country meets at Coopers Lake Campground. They recently hosted the NCAA Division II National Cross Country Meet. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church, Worth Twp., and F. & A.M Lodge # 603 of Grove City. He was a former member of the Slippery Rock Area School Board. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and visited many foreign countries. Survivors include his wife Betty Patterson Cooper of Slippery Rock; sons Kenneth E. Cooper, David B. and wife Anita Cooper, Alan F. and wife Linda Cooper; daughters, Judith C. and husband Frederick Brezel, Cynthia C. Tracy; sister, Joan Wilver, all of Slippery Rock; seven grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Preceded in death by parents and brother Jesse. Funeral Services will at the SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St. Slippery Rock Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Thomas Meling, pastor of the Zion Baptist Church. Visitation will be at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Slippery Rock, Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Monday, April 4, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Interment at Zion Baptist Cemetery Worth Twp. Memorial Contributions Zion Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in care of Holly Lindey, 361 Country View Rd., Slippery Rock, Pa 16057.
