LONGWELL WILLIAM E. "ERNIE"
87, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, with his family by his side. Ernie was the devoted husband of Dolores "Doll" (Leonard) Longwell for 66 years; the watchful father of William "Cook" Longwell, Jr., David Longwell, Judy Black, and Stephen (Jodi) Longwell; the dedicated grandfather of eight grandchildren; and the proud great-grandfather of nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Ernie was the son of the late Donald and Marcella Longwell. He was preceded in death by his four siblings, Donald Longwell, Betty Bodnar, Lucille Kohlmeyer, and John "Jack" Longwell. Ernie served with the Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was a Pile Driver for several years before becoming a City of Pittsburgh Firefighter, serving with Engine Company 43 for most of his 17 years with the Department. Ernie was also a proud member of the Pittsburgh Fire Fighters Union Local No. 1. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 8, 2012 from 1-3 and 6-8 at SCHEPNER- McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 165 Noble Avenue, Crafton, PA 15205. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 310 Mansfield Avenue, Green Tree, PA 15220 on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. followed by entombment at Resurrection Cemetery & Mausoleum, 100 Resurrection Road, Moon Township, PA 15108.
