RUDOLPH "RUDY"
81 of North Huntingdon died Saturday, September 29,2012 at UPMC East Hospital, Monroeville, Pa. He was born August 24, 1931 in North Braddock, a son of the late Rudolph and Francis Anslover Celigoi. Mr. Celigoi was a member of St. Agnes Church, North Huntingdon. He was a graduate of the class of 1949 of North Braddock, Scott High School where he served as captain of the football team. Upon graduation he attended Rutgers University on a scholarship. He was a three year starter on the football team. Upon graduation in 1953, he returned to North Braddock to teach and coach. He was a mathematics teacher, Junior High School basketball coach and assistant football coach to his old high school coach, "Johnny Reed". He also later coached with Joe McCune and Fran Rogel. He became an administrator in North Braddock and left in 1970 to become superintendent of the Swissvale Area School District. He was a part of the group that put together the Woodland Hills School District in 1981 from where he retired in 1986. He loved golf. Every spring meant golf trips followed by a summer of golf with his many friends. Playing cards was also one of his favorite pastimes especially with his friends on Tuesdays in Swissvale. However, he especially loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Florence of 59 years; his daughter, Beth Meteny and her husband, Dennis of Gibsonia; son, Mark Celigoi of Wexford; and his grandchildren, Jonathan, Jason, Alex and Alison. Also surviving is one sister, Virginia Murphy and her husband, Patrick of Newtown, Pa. There isn't anything he wouldn't do for his family. He did all he could to make their lives full and rewarding. He lived his life to help others and hoped their lives were better because of him. Friends will be received at the JAMES W. SHIRLEY FUNERAL HOME, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, Pa 15642, Tuesday 6-8 p.m., Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Thursday at a time to be announced at St. Agnes Church, North Huntingdon followed by interment in Braddock Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Agnes Church in lieu of flowers.

To the family of Mr, Celigoi "Rudy". My favorite class at Scott High was Geometry and he taught it. I also became a teacher, and he was one of my influences. Has a 98 average for the year so he must have taught me well. Sorry to hear of his passing. My condolances to the family.

Rudy was respected and admired by teachers and fellow administrators who knew him as a man of intelligence, integrity and a voice of reason thru some difficult transitional periods. People like myself recognize that in these times, the Rudi Celigoi's are indeed few and far between.

My Uncle was one of the kindest and most generous men I knew. I have many fond memories of times spent at his home and visits to Kennywood as a child. I was fortunate to visit with him this year and will continue to be inspired by his life and courage. I will miss him.
