1921 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
Of Bethel Park, died Friday, July 5, 2013, in Golden Living Center, Canonsburg, PA, at the age of 92. Father Crowley was born May 16, 1921 in Corona, NY. He professed his vows to Religious Life on July 16, 1944 at Holy Ghost Novitiate, Ridgefield, CT and was ordained to the priesthood on June 3, 1949 at St. Mary Seminary, Ferndale, Norwalk, CT. Father was a professor in the English Department of Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA (1950-1960). He was appointed Director of Information for the Spiritans in Washington, D.C., and in 1962 joined the Chicago Spiritan Community where he was head of the Religion Department at St. Francis de Sales High School while serving on the staff of the National Liturgical Conference. In 1976, after a year at the Spiritan Generalate in Rome as Director of Information, he served in Campus Ministry at Duquesne University until he was transferred in 1983 to Wheaton, MD to become Director of Development and Provincial Treasurer of the Province (1984-1991). In mid 1991-2004, he was appointed to Campus Ministry at Duquesne University and Superior of Trinity Hall. During his time at the University, he was Chaplain of Kappa Sigma Phi Fraternity. In October 1995 the Alumni of the fraternity raised funds to renovate the Duquesne Chapel in honor of Fr. Crowley's service to the fraternity. Fr. Crowley has been in retirement at Libermann Hall, Bethel Park since 2004. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Gertrude Turner Crowley; his brother, Richard; and sisters, Grace Moore, Katherine Drew and Gertrude Engel; survivors include cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. There will be viewing Thursday, July 11, 2013 from 3:00-5:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. in the Trinity Hall Chapel on Duquesne University Campus, Pittsburgh. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013 in the Duquesne University Chapel also on campus. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, O'Hara Twp., Pittsburgh, PA. In memory of Fr. Crowley, donations may be made to the Spiritan!; designated for retirement or for the education of future Holy Spirit Fathers, 6230 Brush Run Road Bethel Park, PA 15102.
