Age "98", of Beechview, on Thursday, February 6, 2014. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Ginley) Marini; loving father of Patricia (Lawrence) Smith and Janet (the late Robert) Jenkner; devoted grandfather of Gary Mihalsky, Scott (Erin) Mihalsky, and Paul and Ryan Jenkner; great-grandfather of Dena, Jake, Tyler, Austin, and Johnny. Sam served in WWII guarding prisoners of war in Tennessee. For his community, he coached the Beechview Olsons, a semi-professional football team. His working career began as a bricklayer. Eventually, he owned and operated Marini Construction Company, specializing in sub-contract masonry work for commercial businesses, such as Today's Home, Bell Telephone, Arby's, and countless others. He was known among his colleagues as the "last gentleman of his trade." He was later joined in the company by his daughter, Patricia, working together for several years. Sam also built his own house as well as those of his daughters, brothers, and sister. He was a generous employer and supported several charities. At the age of 85, Sam joined the choir at St. Catherine of Siena Church, retiring when he was 96. He loved his wife and his family, devoting his life to their happiness and well-being. He was a good man, loved and respected by family, friends and employees. He will be greatly missed. As per Sam's wishes, there are no visitations. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church. Inurnment private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to PA Connecting Communities, a non-profit organization that serves the interests of special needs individuals.
