Jessie Stough Woods, of Napa, CA and Pittsburgh, died peacefully at home in Napa, on March 20, 2014, surrounded by three of her children. She was 92. Born in Latrobe, Jessie graduated from Latrobe High School in 1939 and subsequently attended Gettysburg College. During her college years, Jessie was a model at Cypress Gardens in Florida. On April 27, 1941, she appeared in the cover article of the Pittsburgh Press' Rota magazine, which declared her "the most photographed girl in America." In 1943, Jessie married Bernard A. Woods, Jr. They became parents to four children. They were avid global travelers, whose trips included visits to over 75 countries. On three occasions, they circled the world via ship. In 1987, Jessie and Bernie took their children and grandchildren to Kitzbuhel, Austria, to celebrate Christmas, where the family skied, rode in horse-drawn sleighs, and drank the local schnapps. The family was so fond of the experience that they returned to Kitzbuhel for another two Christmas seasons. Throughout her life, Jessie enjoyed painting on both china and canvas. Her beautiful paintings and cherished china are now spread across the homes of her children and grandchildren. Jessie is survived by her four children, Cheryl Woods of Napa, Karen Johnson of Pittsburgh and Vail, Bernard Woods III of Gerry, NY, and Lisa Becker of St. Louis. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; and ten great- grandchildren. Jessie was interred in Allegheny Cemetery next to her husband, following a family ceremony. Arrangements by WOLFE MEMORIAL, INC., Forest Hills Chapel, 412-731-5001.
