Age 31, of Frederick, Maryland (formerly of Gibsonia, PA), passed away unexpectedly on April 22, 2014, due to complications of a stroke. Andrew was the beloved son of Tom and Tish; best friend and oldest brother to Zach, Jordan, and Carly; dearly loved grandson of John and Joan LaScola and the late Mary and Robert Poropatich. Andrew was a nephew to Thomas and Cheryl Fogarty, Bob Poropatich, Bo Swyszcz, Richard and Lynn Poropatich, Ronald and Cary Poropatich, Randolph and Shelly Poropatich, Judith LaScola, and Tina and Dan Chiavetta. Andrew is also survived by many cousins. Andrew was a Safety Specialist at Ft. Detrick and a member of American Society of Safety Engineers. He graduated with honors from IUP, with bachelor's and master's degrees in Safety Science. Andrew was a proud member of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. Growing up, Andrew played hockey for the Eastern Tigers and Hampton Talbots. Some of Drew's proudest moments were on the ice. Andrew lived every moment to the fullest. A self professed "yinzer," Andrew was proud to bleed black and gold. We ask, in his honor, everyone drink a beer and cheer the Pittsburgh Penguins to another Stanley Cup. .... Sit right here and have another beer in Mexico, Do my best to waste another day, Sit right here and have another beer in Mexico, Let the warm air melt these blues away.... Memorial service will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church, 315 Shady Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15206, on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. "Yinzer" celebration to follow.
