1925 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Age 88, of Longwood at Oakmont, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2014, surrounded by loved ones. Nancy was born August 11, 1925, in Columbus, OH. She was a graduate of Ohio State University and worked for their Alumni Office before meeting Jack Hoover on the train going to the Rose Bowl. They were married that April and had 50 wonderful and unforgettable years together. They lived in many places including Ohio, Lausanne, Switzerland and Fox Chapel. In 1967, while living in Switzerland, Nancy met the late Mary Davidson of Toronto and the two families became life long friends. Nancy helped co-found the American Women's Club of Lausanne with Mary. Nancy was also involved and volunteered with handicapped groups and gazettes in Switzerland. She continued volunteering for Harmarville Rehabilitation Center and Beechwood Farms when the family returned to Pittsburgh, while Jack still worked for Alcoa. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Jack by nine years - April 27, 2005, and her parents, Dr. John Dudley and Helen (Fischel) Dunham. She was the loving mother to Daniel Raymond Hoover of Haddonfield, NJ and his wife, Lisa (Baker) Hoover and Susan (Hoover) Yeakel of Boxford, MA and her husband, L. Stanley Yeakel III. Nancy or "Granny" was a devoted, proud and energetic grandmother to five beautiful grandchildren. They are Elizabeth A. Yeakel, 23, of Hawaii, Mary B. Hoover, 19 , Sarah K. Yeakel, 18 , Holly D. Hoover, 16 and Thomas W. F. Yeakel, 15. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday May 10, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church of Fox Chapel, 630 Squaw Run Rd. East, where the family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be private. A memorial reception will also be held at Longwood at Oakmont on May 10, 2014, at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Family Hospice/Specialized Dementia Program, 50 Moffett St., Pittsburgh, PA 15243 or to the Audubon Society at Beechwood Farms, 614 Dorseyville Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15238.
