WILLIAM T.
Age 97, of Mt. Lebanon, peacefully, on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. Beloved husband of the late Bernadine Z. Monger; loving father of five daughters, Mary Ellen Monger, Barbara Jane Laird, Patricia L. (Bradley) Hermann, Mikki Monger Jones, and the late Linda Monger; brother of the late Caswell Monger and Doris Richter; also survived by nine grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and one great- great-granddaughter. Bill was well traveled as a youth. He joined the Army in 1941, served in the Pacific Theatre in World War II, was injured during the war, and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He wrote letters to and from his future wife, whom he had never met. After the war, they met and married six months later, and were married for over 67 years. Bill worked for J & L Steel Corp. for 30 years, and following retirement, volunteered at St. Clair Hospital until the age of 95, accumulating over 10,000 hours in 30 years. His last years of life were devoted to caring for his sick wife for eight years. Friends will be received at LAUGHLIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, on Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Winifred Church on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 301 Grant Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
