1924 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
On Saturday, May 17, 2014, Joseph W. Kupfner, age 89, of Bethel Park, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Leisenring, PA on September 19, 1924, to the late Joseph and Theresa Kupfner. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Margaret (Peg) Carroll Kupfner; loving father to three daughters, Anne (Thomas) Murtagh, Mary (Andrew) Pears, and Susan (Barry) Duffey; cherished grandfather to Patrick (Katie) Murtagh, Caitlin (Joshua) Baker, Joseph Murtagh, Joseph (Hayley) Pears, Jonathan (Stephanie) Pears, Kayleigh Pears and Matthew, Kellie and Tyler Duffey; and three great- grandchildren, Emma and Connor Murtagh, and Jack Baker. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Coyle and Marie Reilly. Joe was employed at U.S. Steel as an Industrial Engineer for 40 years, where he retired in 1983. He then worked as a consultant at UEC for eight years. After retirement, Joe volunteered at The Red Door Program at St. Mary of Mercy Church, making and serving lunches to the homeless. He was also a founding member and volunteered with the Technology Consulting in the Community through Carnegie Mellon University, his alma mater. Joe was a proud and devoted family man. While he will be sadly missed by his loving family and friends, his caring and generous spirit will never be forgotten. Friends will be received Tuesday 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the DAVID J. HENNEY FUNERAL HOME, 6364 Library Road (Rt. 88), Library.
