GALE O. SHREFFLER Obituary
SHREFFLER GALE O.
Age 90, of Plum, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014. He was born in Franklin, PA and was the son of the late Paul and Emma Shreffler. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora "Jean" (Boyd) Shreffler, who passed away in 2006. Gale was a First Lieutenant WWII navigator on B-29 Super Fortresses in the battle over Japan and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Later in life, Gale received the Carnegie Hero Award for saving the lives of a family trapped in their burning home after a gas explosion. He was employed at U.S. Steel Corporation for 34 years as a manager of accounting and was a graduate of Kent State University. Loving father of Linda (Ronald) Sundin and William (Kristie) Shreffler; father-in-law of the late Robert Patrizio; grandfather of Jennifer Woodall, Lauren Shreffler, Michael (fiancée Christina Cunneen) Shreffler and Samuel Shreffler; great- grandfather of Aidan and Olivia; brother of Jean (late Carl) Ehlert and Jane (John) Lundquist; also survived by nieces and nephews. Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at MAURICE L. KNEE, LTD. FUNERAL HOME, 7663 Saltsburg Rd. (across from S & T Bank) Plum, PA 15239. Funeral Service Wednesday 10 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Plum Creek. Interment with military funeral honors will follow in Plum Creek Cemetery.
