1920 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Age 94, fell asleep in the arms of the Lord on Sunday, May 25, 2014, at the Manor Care Health Facility, Bethel Park following an extended illness. She was born on April 4, 1920, in Vysne Cebing, Slovakia to the late Michael and Anna Kumicak Kopka. She immigrated to the United States in 1938 and lived on the North Side of Pittsburgh with relatives George and Mary Waroblak. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas R. Astarb; her brother, Michael Kopka; and her sister, Helen Kopka Lisy. She was employed by the Rosenbaum Department Store as a beautician for several years prior to operating her own business. In addition she served as a school crossing guard for the Mt. Lebanon School District for many years. Anna was an avid gardener, traveler, ethnic story teller, and a very unique cook of traditional Slavic foods. Anna's affiliation included St. Pius X Byzantine and St. Anne's churches. She is survived by a daughter, Suzanne; as well as family relatives including Drew and Doris Grivna, Barbara Grivnova Perlstein, John and Cecelia Astarb, John and Mary Bales, Richard, Michael, and John Astarb. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 400 Hoodridge Drive, Castle Shannon on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at 1 p.m. with Father Robert J. Cedolia as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a .
