1929 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
Of Williamstown, died peacefully, at Berkshire Medical Center on May 1, 2014, at the age of 85. She was born January 22, 1929, in Pittsburgh, PA, daughter of James Russell Dodworth and Dorothy Thompson Dodworth. She grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and was a graduate of Winchester Thurston School ('47), Chatham University (BA'51) and Rhode Island School of Design (BFA'52), and completed coursework at Boston University School of Education. She was an assistant librarian at Robbins Library in Arlington, MA, and loved books and reading passionately. Dorothy was also a children's book author and illustrator with Young Scott Books/Scholastic and created the notable Doodlepunk series, A Dangerous Day for Mrs. Doodlepunk, Mrs. Doodlepunk Trades Work, and Look Out, Mrs. Doodlepunk! She was an artist working in watercolor, oil and other media, and showed in numerous group and solo exhibitions. Her specialties were portraiture and still life, and her colorful landscapes and flowers found home in many locations around town and around the world. In addition to her husband and family, her love was Stony Lake (Ontario), where she spent much of her time making art, sailing the Flying Sieve, and canoeing. Dorothy moved to Williamstown in 1963 with her husband, Richard J. Scullin, Jr. Together they were witty, curious, and playful. Richard died just a short while ago on March 15, 2014. She is survived by three children; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, Laura Scullin Tomlinson of Johnson, VT and her five children, Sarah, James, Morgan, Inanna, and Aryk; and great-grandchildren, Caleb and Asher, Charlotte Scullin Clark of San Diego, CA area, her husband, Geoff Clark, and three children, Alexander, Austin, and Aurora; Richard J. Scullin III of Williamstown, MA, his wife, Karin Stack, and daughter, Hazel. She was predeceased by her brothers, Russell T. Dodworth and James R. Dodworth. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Dorothy D. Scullin was Sunday, May 25, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church in Williamstown. Burial will be private.
