1928 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
Jeanne M. Westrick departed this world, but not our hearts, to favor the angels with her smile on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at the age of 85. Born December 15, 1928, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of John F. and Jessie A. (McCann) Byrne, she graduated from Toledo's Notre Dame Academy in 1947, and in 1955 married Richard H. "Dick" Westrick during his U.S. Army service at Fort Myer, Virginia. Jeanne worked as a switchboard operator for her entire career, first at Bell Telephone in Toledo, then at community hospitals in Houston, Texas; Arlington Heights, Illinois; and finally in Pittsburgh, where she and her family settled in 1972. She retired from her position as chief switchboard operator at North Hills Passavant Hospital in 1995, but continued to call on friends both old and new with uplifting greetings through good times and bad, to the delight of those she visited and purveyors of festive balloons alike. A longtime resident of Allison Park, Jeanne loved to socialize, travel, enjoy a good meal, and cheer on the Steelers, multiplying all of life's pleasures for those in her company with the lilt of her Irish laughter. She also shared with her husband an insatiable appetite for theatre and live music: in addition to singing together for decades in their church choir, and attending myriad plays and concerts, she rarely missed one of her husband's many performances as an actor in North Hills area comedy and musical productions over the course of more than 35 years. She is survived by the love of her life, her husband, Dick; her sons, Richard B. Westrick of Allison Park, Pennsylvania, and Jeffrey B. Westrick of Salt Lake City, Utah; and her sister, Patty A. Byrne of Toledo, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her firstborn, infant son John F. Westrick; and her beloved Papillon dog, Cara. Friends may call at the GEORGE A. THOMA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 10418 Perry Highway, Wexford, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. On Wednesday, June 11, 2014, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated in her honor at 10 a.m. at St. Alexis Catholic Church, 10090 Old Perry Highway, Wexford, Pennsylvania, followed by a Committal Service in her final resting place, Holy Savior Cemetery, 4629 Bakerstown Road, Gibsonia, Pennsylvania.
