W. PRESTON, J.D.
Age 92, of Longwood at Oakmont, formerly of Fox Chapel and Naples, FL, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 16, 2014. Beloved husband of the late Judith Fox Germain; loving father of John Phoenix Germain and his wife, Cathy, of Hendersonville, TN, Pamela Germain Matt and her husband, F.X. Matt III, of New Hartford, NY, and the late David Germain and W. Preston Germain II; grandfather of Allison Matt, Frank Matt, Michael Matt, Thomas Matt, and Larry Matt; brother of the late Albert Edwin Germain and Robert Germain. Preston was born June 20, 1921, in Saginaw, Michigan, and was the son of Dr. Walter N. Germain and Winifred Preston Germain. Preston flew a P47 Thunderbolt during WWII in support of his brother Robert who was in Guadalcanal. After 50 successful missions, Preston became a flight instructor. Mr. Germain graduated from the University of Michigan, under the GI Bill. He graduated from Marquette University Law School and moved to Pittsburgh, where he started as an attorney and later went into the family lumber business and continued practicing law. Preston was a former member of the Pittsburgh Field Club, Fox Chapel Racquet Club, University Club, Pittsburgh Athletic Association, Duquesne Club and St. Scholastica Church, where he and his late wife sang in the choir for 27 years. Friends will be received Wednesday, June 18, 2014, from 5-8 p.m. at the WEDDELL - AJAK FUNERAL HOME, 100 Center Ave., Aspinwall. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, June 19, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Scholastica Church, 309 Brilliant Ave., Aspinwall. Interment will be private. A memorial reception will be held at Longwood at Oakmont Thursday, June 19, 2014, at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Little Sisters of the Poor, 1028 Benton Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15212 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, 301 Grant St., Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
