1913 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Age 100, of McCandless Township, died peacefully at Providence Heights on Sunday, June 15, 2014. Sr. Victorine (Madeleine) was born July 22, 1913, in Braddock, PA. She entered the Sisters of Divine Providence on September 29, 1929. Throughout the next 85 years, she faithfully and joyfully served God and others. In the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Sr. Victorine taught at St. Martins, West End, St. Mary's Mckees Rocks, St. Basil's in Carrick and Divine Providence Academy, also Johnstown-Altoona Diocese and Dover, Ohio. She received her doctorate at Fordham University in New York and was Academic Dean at La Roche College in Allison Park. Sr. Victorine's journey took her to Rome and then Korea where she prepared Korean women to enter religious life and established a province for the Sisters of Divine Providence in Inchon, Korea for the next 22 years. Before retiring, she spent ten years working with the poor at Jeremiah Fields in Harlem, New York. Sr. Victorine was a true missionary who was multi-lingual, studious, and artistic. She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Agnes D'zmura; one brother; and three sisters. Sr. Victorine is survived by her niece, Julie Malloy; and nephew, John Abbatico; and friends. Friends will be received at Providence Heights on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. with a Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, from 12 to 3:30 p.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 4:00 p.m. in Divine Providence Chapel.
