1921 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Age 92, went to her heavenly home, joining Bill, her beloved husband of 69 years, on Thursday, July 3, 2014, after a short illness. Born Sept. 16, 1921, the daughter of Duquesne brewmaster Maximilian and his wife, Barbara Amberger Muehlbauer, the ever-vivacious "Cass" grew up on the South Side Slopes, where she met the love of her life, William. Surrounded by family and friends at a home ceremony, they married on a snowy Jan. 24, 1942, before he went off to war. Her life always centered on home, family and devout Christian faith. A cook, candy maker and cake baker extraordinaire, her repertoire included everything from German knadles to grape jelly from vines she tended and chocolate fudge she dotted with black walnuts. When she entertained, it was always with music and rollicking humor, and she loved to polka. For one so elegant and petite, she had a surprisingly hearty laugh. Away from her immaculate and productive flower and vegetable gardens, she and her family spent many happy summer days at her brother Mickey's "shack" at Canadohta Lake or vacationing at Wildwood, NJ. She delighted in celebrating Christmas, designing different adornment each year to decorate her fireplace mantel in the living room where she welcomed a multitude of guests. Surviving are her son, William A. Hoellein, Jr., with whom she made her home; a sister, Madeline Ratay of Pittsburgh; grandsons, Eric R. (Debbie) and Kurt F., both of South Park; three great-granddaughters; and three great-grandsons. Visitation 1-8 p.m. Tuesday at the READSHAW FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1503 Brownsville Road, Carrick. Funeral Service to be conducted by the Rev. Edward Naumann at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 418 Maxwell Drive, Whitehall, where she was a charter member. (EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church-Memorial Lighting Fund. Send condolences to:
