SCHERRER Dr. J. FREDERICK
Of Upper St. Clair, age 89, on Thursday, July 3, 2014. He was born July 3, 1925, in Pittsburgh, the son of Joseph G. and Anna (Bernauer) Scherrer. Beloved husband of the late Ruth Lunette Scott Scherrer; loving brother of Connie (Roy) Benson; and dear cousin of Alice O'Brien. Fred grew up in Oakland and graduated from Schenley High School. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II and was present when they landed in Normandy. He received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star and was later stationed in Paris with a Military Intelligence Unit. Dr. Scherrer received his bachelor's degree from Carnegie Tech in 1949, a master's from the University of Pittsburgh and from Carnegie Tech, and his doctorate for the University of Pittsburgh. He had a longtime association with Pittsburgh Public Schools as a teacher, a principal, an administrator, and as the assistant superintendent. He was also a member of the McMurray and Canonsburg VFW's. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS, 724-941-3211. Friends welcome at 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, 15317, Monday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home Tuesday 11 a.m. Interment in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the McMurray VFW Post 764. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Memorial Park Post 764 VFW, 460 Valleybrook Road, McMurray, PA 15317. Please add or view tributes at:
