RUTKOWSKI RICHARD P.|
Age 85, on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, peacefully at his home. Husband of 50 years of the late Anne M. (Rasimczyk) Rutkowski; cherished father and best friend of Richard P. Rutkowski, Jr. and Patty, Denise A. Kristofic and Mike and Marsha A. Gruber; amazing "Pap" of Paul Richard and Anna Rose Rutkowski, Brenda Lee Gruber, Bridget Marie Gruber and Russ Glorioso, and Daniel Richard Gruber; Benjamin Michael and Valerie Anne Kristofic, and Amy Lynn and Vic Novak; and proud great-grandpap of Luke Parker Novak. He was the devoted son of the late Peter and Apolonia Rutkowski; brother of Josephine Gergerich, the late Pete Rutkowski, Jr., Helen Zolnowski, Jean Szerszynski, Penny McQuillan, Isabelle Steigerwald and Teddy Rutkowski. Born in Pittsburgh, on May 11, 1929, Richard led a wonderful life, sharing his beautiful home with everyone. His home was the site of many enjoyable and memorable gatherings. The home he built together with his wife has truly been a foundational place in the lives of everyone they knew. It was the place everyone wanted to be, full of love and understanding, acceptance and integrity. Dad always was there to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. While he "lived simply", he really "simply lived" life to the fullest by working hard, loving and enjoying his family and friends. He was known for his many talents and hobbies. It seemed there wasn't much that dad couldn't fix or build. He was the "go-to" guy when things broke. He loved fishing, boating, and gardening. Richard served his country as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division towards the end of WWII. He mastered many trades throughout his life and retired as a Lieutenant Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire after 36 years. In his most recent years, Rich served as usher for his church every Sunday. He was a friend and neighbor to everyone he met and will be missed by all. Friends received at the WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 216 44th Street, Lawrenceville, on Sunday, July 20, 2014, from 1-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial at Incarnation of the Lord Church on Monday at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Incarnation of the Lord Church, 4071 Franklin Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15214 or Dad's favorite charity, The Salvation Army, 100 W.
