SALLEY MARTIN JAMES "JIMMY"|
On Monday, July 21, 2014, age 92, of Edgewood, formerly of East McKeesport and Homestead. Beloved husband of the late Mildred (Pisarcik) Salley; brother of Richard L. Salley and the late Frank, Samuel, Joseph, Edward, John, and Regis; also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Salley was employed by Westinghouse for 47 years. His employment was interrupted when he was drafted into the U.S. Army and participated in the June 6, 1944, Operation Overlord allied invasion of Europe landing on Utah Beach with his Half Track Anti-Aircraft Squad. After D-Day, he participated in numerous ground operations, culminating with the defeat of Germany on May 7, 1945. He proudly returned to Europe several times throughout his life for travel and participated in the D-Day 50th Anniversary Ceremony in June 1994. He was an ardent supporter of Catholic Education and generously supported the Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Friends will be received Friday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the RV ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 315 E. Tenth Street, Homestead. Please gather at the funeral home on Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Homestead, at 11 a.m.
