NICHOLAS HARRIS Obituary
HARRIS
NICHOLAS
Age 95, of West Mifflin, died July 26, 2014. He was born April 23, 1919, in Homeville and graduated from Homestead H.S. in 1939. "Statistics classify me as a hard-working man, but in my book, I'm a millionaire. Sure, I work hard. But when I leave the mill and step into my living room, the World's my oyster," spoke Nick Harris in the Pictorial Living Pittsburgh Sun Telegraph, Sept. 1, 1957, ("A Working Millionaire"). Nick worked for U.S. Steel in Homestead for 35 years as a 1st Helper in OH5, then as a Night Turn Superintendent. During WWII, Nick was an Aviation Machinist Mechanic in the U.S. Navy. Beloved husband of 65 years to Wanda B. (Kopacz) Harris, who predeceased him; father of Barbara (Zane Weiner) Harris and Pamela Holmes; grandfather of Taylor Holmes; brother of the late Paul, Pauline, Mary, Mildred, and Irene. Nick was a member of Resurrection Church, was a Boy Scout, and played golf, baseball, basketball, and football. The family wishes to thank Dr. Howard Pittle and Pauline Barton for their care and advice, Promise Hospice and Baldwin Health Center for their compassion and support, and Nick's angel caregivers, Laurie Bezek and Kerry O'Neill. Friends will be received at the SAVOLSKIS – WASIK – GLENN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3501 Main Street, Munhall, Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at Resurrection R.C. Church, West Mifflin, at 10 a.m., followed by Interment in St. Elias Cemetery, West Mifflin.
