1924 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
On Sunday, August 10, 2014, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA. Sister of Jean Svagzdys and the late Norman Diges and Alice Heidinger; loving aunt of Philip Heidinger, Neil Heidinger, Marcia Cole, Julie McCarthy, Marie Lindros, Cecilia Svagzdys, Jean Louise Svagzdys, John Svagzdys and the late Norman and Paul Diges; also survived by her many great-nieces and nephews and their families. Doris was born in 1924, graduated from the Wilkinsburg High School at 16 and began her working career. She moved to New England to work at Chance Vought Air Craft Industries during WWII, meeting Igor Sikorsky, becoming a true "Rosie the Riveter." After the war, and moving back to Pittsburgh, she began a long and distinguished career at Bell Telephone. Ms. Diges moved up and became the first woman in Pennsylvania to reach first level district manager. She sat on the board of various community organizations including United Way and Boy Scouts. She retired to Manchester-by-the-Sea, and again was near her beloved New England coast. A Blessing Service will be held at the Braddock Catholic Cemetery Chapel on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements by the THOMAS L. NIED FUNERAL HOME, INC.
