DONALD VERNON II, D.O.
Age 87, of Madison, Ohio, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2015, at home. He was born March 28, 1928, in Euclid, to Donald V. and Helen (Cottrell) Hampton. Donald completed his undergraduate studies at Miami University of Ohio and completed his doctoral studies at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Donald married the late Carolyn Walden on August 16, 1952, in Kirksville, Missouri. Donald spent 17 years in Madison, Ohio where he was a general practitioner from 1960, until he joined Doctor's Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1977. Prior to joining LECOM he was on staff at the former Brentwood Hospital in Warrensville Heights, Ohio. Dr. Hampton was a Clinical Professor Emeritus at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, PA, where he taught and was instrumental in developing the curriculum for the Osteopathic Manipulation Treatment Program. He also assisted with the opening of the LECOM branches in Bradenton, Florida and LECOM at Seton Hill. Donald was an examiner with the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners. Throughout all his endeavors, Donald enjoyed music and being a member of the Madison Jazz Project, which he was active with until his passing. He is survived by his children, Aleta Lynne Welch, Marla Rae Hynd, Kevin Scott (Maureen) Hampton, all of Madison, Tara Beth McCrone of Plymouth Township; and sister, Bronwyn of Sevastable, NY; brothers, Wade (Judith) Hampton of Fresno, CA, William (Terry) Hampton of Atlanta, GA, Robert (Suzanne) Hampton of Chagrin Falls, OH; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and soon to arrive great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; his parents, both of whom were also Osteopathic Physicians; and a son-in-law, Terry McCrone. Friends will be received Monday, August 17, 2015, from 3 to 8 p.m. at THE BEHM FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 26 River Street, Madison, OH. Funeral Services will be held, Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at 12:00 p.m. at the Cornerstone Friends Church, 2300 Hubbard Rd., Madison. Interment will follow in Perry Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dr. Hampton's name may be given to the scholarship fund at LECOM, 1858 W. Grandview Blvd., Erie, PA 16509, or Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, 800 W.
