1922 - 2017 Obituary Condolences
Age 94, residing at Harmony Hall Assisted Living Facility in Columbia, MD passed away Monday, September 4, 2017, in Gilchrist Hospice, Columbia, MD. He was born on October 3, 1922, in Wyano, PA to his parents, the late Charles and Anna (Kwaczala) Kusbit. Mr. Kusbit served in the Army during World War II as an acting 1st Sergeant in the Corps of Combat Engineers. He went on to earn his Bachelor and Master of Letters in Accounting and Industry at the University of Pittsburgh. He was employed by Allegheny International Corporation and its successor Sunbeam Corporation in various locations: Brackenridge, PA, Ridgway, PA, Columbus, OH, and the headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA from which he retired. During his years in Pittsburgh, he was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fox Chapel. He was a volunteer in various capacities in the churches he belonged, including the treasury and other committees. He was a member of the American Legion, Ridgway Volunteer Fire Department, United Way, and Kiwanis over the years. He enjoyed reading, card playing, traveling, and golfing. Surviving Mr. Kusbit are his children, Sharon (Jim) Johnson of Crofton, MD, Keith (Marcia) Kusbit of Pittsburgh, Terri (Tom) Bates of Columbus, OH; brother, Walter Kusbit; grandchildren, Russell, Virginia, Nathan, Matthew, and Daniel; great-grandchildren, Mallory, James, and Daphne; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Besides his parents, Rudy was also preceded in death by his wife, Doris Kusbit; daughter, Susan Kusbit; brother, Carl Kusbit; and sister, Sylvia Pongrance. Visitation on Friday, September 15, 2017, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the THOMAS M. SMITH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, LTD., 930 Center Avenue, Blawnox, PA 15238, where family and friends will gather on Saturday, September 16, 2017, for a funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment in Lakewood Memorial Garden to immediately follow.
