Obituary Condolences

HARVEY WADE
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Centenary United Methodist Church for Mr. Wade Harvey, 60, of Youngstown, who departed this life Sunday, September 5, 2010 in Forum Health Northside Medical Center. Mr. Harvey was born October 13, 1949 in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of David Murray and Marion Florence Pennix Harvey. He was a graduate of Schenley High School in Pittsburgh. Wade received his Master of Science, Civil Engineering Degree from Youngstown State University in 1980, and his Bachelor of Engineering, Civil Engineering from YSU in 1973. Mr. Harvey managed the structural division of ms consultants' Northeastern Ohio operations for over thirty years. Based in the Youngstown Ohio Office, Wade joined ms consultants in 1974 as a graduate bridge engineer and quickly advanced to lead the company's planning and design phases for a variety of structural projects large and small. Though he was well adept at designing many types of structures, such as foundations, retaining walls, and building systems, he is best remembered for his design expertise for bridge structures. Over his 37-year career some of his notable local landmark projects include design of the SR 616 Bridge Street Bridge and Walton Street Bridge in Struthers, the US 224 Bridge over Yellow Creek in Poland, the South Avenue Bridge, the Marshall Street Bridge, the Division Street Bridge, and the Mahoning Avenue Bridge in Youngstown to name a few. Mr. Harvey's mark can be found on bridge rehabilitation and replacement projects throughout the tri-county area, along the Ohio Turnpike and throughout Ohio. Wade held memberships in the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineering. Besides being regarded as one of northeast Ohio's premier bridge designers, Wade is fondly remembered as being a trusted mentor and beloved friend to the staff at ms consultants. His quiet, steady demeanor coupled with his attention to detail and sense of humor was not only an asset to the company, but also a guiding light to those with whom he worked over the course of his career. The knowledge and guidance he provided to his colleagues will surely be missed. Wade was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Chairman of its Finance Committee, member of the Board of Trustees and Administrative Council. Wade was an avid and skilled aeromodeler, having designed, built and flown numerous model aircraft; and he was a long time member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics. He leaves to cherish his beloved memory, his loving and devoted wife, the former Cathlene Hardaway, whom he married January 15, 1983; three sons, Kevin Wade Harvey of Rochester, NY, Steven Michael Harvey and Mark Alan Harvey both of Youngstown; a sister, Mary Catherine (Thomas) Slofer of Atlanta, GA; a brother, Norman (Deborah) Harvey of Kapolei, Hawaii; and a host of family and friends. Friends may call Friday from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the L. E. BLACK, PHILLIPS & HOLDEN FUNERAL HOME, 1951 McGuffey Rd, Youngstown, 330-744-7770.
