HILL EMMA JO (McCRACKEN)|
Born Emma Josephine McCracken in Jonesboro, AK on June 14, 1924, died Sunday September 19, 2010 at Asbury Heights where she had been residing for nine years. Wife of the late Robert L. Hill; mother of Laura Ann (late Michael) Gallagher of Scott Twp., Lindsay R. (Lorraine) Hill of Birmingham, AL and Mark M. Hill of Frederick MD; sister of Louise Noble of Mechanicsville, VA; grandmother of Emily & Lauren Gallagher, Jesse Hill & half-sister Jill Van Ells and Karla & Robert Hill. Mrs. Hill was a violinist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra from 1960 until 1987. Hearkening back to her roots in a family of four musicians who played string quartets growing up in Colorado Springs, she retired to live in a mountain cabin in Colorado where she remained active musically in the community. A graduate of the Julliard School of Music, she was a member of the Denver & Houston Symphony Orchestras, as well as the National Symphony of Washington, DC, and was assistant concertmaster for ten summer seasons of the Central City Opera in Colorado. A memorial service will be held at Asbury Heights Hickman Memorial Chapel 700 Bower Hill Rd. Mt. Lebanon on Saturday September 25 at 1:00PM.
