Obituary Condolences

Of North Versailles, on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, she went to be with the Lord, surrounded by her loving family. Bertha was a devout Serbian Orthodox Christian, and while she was a member of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church, she served as a longtime Church School teacher, a member of Serbian Sisters and the Church choir. She faithfully baked the Church Holy Bread (Nafora) for over 25 years and for decades, prepared wheat (Koljivo) for memorial services (Parastas). She was a longtime active member of the Sunset Central Ladies Auxiliary. A daughter of the late Milich and Maria (Gojkovich) Mrkich; wife of the late Joseph Cervo; beloved mother of Gloria Knowlson, Angela Labuda, Michael (Ann) Cervo, Very Rev. Joseph (Linda) Cervo and the late Carmine "Butch" Cervo; also survived by ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandsons; dear sister of Martha Dawson, the late Mildred Vuick, Helen Horrell, Angie Richey, Michael, Charles, Milos, Milan, Alexander and Theodore Mrkich; numerous nieces and nephews. Friends received ALFIERI FUNERAL HOME, INC., 201 Marguerite Ave. Wilmerding, PA, on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-9 p.m. Additional visitation on Saturday in St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, 901 Hartman St. McKeesport, PA 15132, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. Interment Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church Renovation Fund (same address as above).
