CHERRY GERALD CHARLES
Gerald Charles Cherry, 69, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 10, 2012. The Pittsburgh, PA native was born in 1942 to Michael and Isabel Altmeyer Cherry. He was a graduate of Munhall High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, and voted Most Valuable Player on the football team. He was scouted by many major universities and colleges, including a visit by Joe Paterno, who was at the time the freshman coach at Penn State. He chose the University of Pittsburgh, where he received a full scholarship, graduating with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He also attended the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. He began a 34 year career with Texaco working in Pittsburgh in Lube Oil Sales. He was promoted to the Corporate Office in New York in the Supply and Distribution Department, where he held various management positions. He was in charge of lifting crude oil and products throughout Texaco's global market. Most important to him were his family and his friends. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Sheridan Cherry; daughter, Coleen Sullivan; sons, Bret and Brad Cherry; his grandchildren, Meaghan and Katie Sullivan, Christopher, Patrick, Thomas, Jonathan, and Elizabeth Cherry; and his brother, Michael Cherry.
