SERGEANT MAJOR HAROLD D. , JR. "BILL"
Las Vegas, NV, Sergeant Major Harold "Bill" Don Billings, Jr., 44, Operations SGM of the Sixth Recruiting Brigade, Las Vegas, NV, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012. Born January 25, 1968, in Gallup, NM, Mr. Billings was the son of Faye (Gallegos) Thompson and the late Harold Don Billings, Sr. Bill joined the United States Army September 1986, and was stationed in Fort Drum, NY, Tenth Mountain Division. In 1993, Bill joined the United States Army Recruiting Command. Bill was a Gulf War and Desert Storm veteran. He was the recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; the Sergeant Audie Murphy Award; the Glenn E. Morrell Award; and eight Good Conduct Medals. In 2011, Bill graduated from the Sergeant Major Academy, Fort Bliss, TX. He also graduated from the Columbia Southern University in Alabama. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and was also a member and Master Mason in the Doric Lodge #630 A.F. & A.M., Sewickley, PA. Bill was a dedicated soldier who loved the United States Army and his family. Bill is survived by his wife of 19 years, Michelle (Bender) Billings, Las Vegas, NV; and his sons, PFC Nathan Billings, Fort Sill, OK, Jonathan Billings, and Lauren Billings, both at home. He is also survived by four sisters; a brother, all of Colorado; and his mother-in-law, Irene Bender, Flintstone, MD. Friends will be received at the ADAMS FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Thursday, July 5, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Friday, July 6, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The East Gate Lodge A.F. & A.M. will conduct a Memorial Service on Thursday, July 5, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, July 6, 2012, at 1:00 p.m., with Chaplain Colonel Scott Sherretz officiating. Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap. Full Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery.
