86, of Gibsonia and Punta Gorda, passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2012. John was a graduate of Penn State University where he majored in chemical engineering. He also earned a masters degree from The Harvard Business School. He was a vice president of the former Koppers Company where he headed the organic chemical division. After retiring from Koppers Company he served as a director of a division of the Environmental Protection Agency. He was a longtime member of the Oakmont Country Club, the Duquesne Club, the Iron City Fishing Club and of the Twin Isles Country Club where he pursued his hobbies of golf and fine dining. He was a member of the Infinity Masonic Lodge 546, Scottish Rite, Syria Shrine and Pittsburgh Jester Court #2. He was also a member of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. Beloved husband of Margery (Succop) McCarthy; father of Natalie (Walter) Sloan of Bakerstown, Matthew (Colleen) McCarthy of Penn Township, and Andrew (Paget) McCarthy of Frazer Township; grandfather of C.J., Eric, Brian, Brandon, Megan, Samantha, Miguel, Nyssa, Luke, Eric, and Bridget; also survived by one great-granddaughter, Ellis. A private family Memorial Service will be held at the Homewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the St. Thomas Church in the Fields, 4106 St. Thomas Dr., Gibsonia, PA 15044 or the Iron City Fishing Club Charitable Gift Fund.
