Age 97, on Tuesday, November 27, 2012. Beloved wife of 61 years to the late George "Brinks" Batko. Born on December 27, 1914 in Lyndora, PA to the late Stephen and Helen (Bezek) Varhola. Anna lived a quiet life in Pittsburgh for over 60 years devoted to her husband, family, and Church. She was well read, a wonderful homemaker, had a wry sense of humor and assumed the role of "golf widow" with love and understanding. She is survived by daughter, Stephanie (Dr. Stephen) Yovino; and son, Gregory (Cynthia) Batko; grandchildren, Lauriann Cummings, Andrea (Michael) Dague, Dr. Susannah (Joshua Ellsworth) Batko-Yovino, and Gregory Michael Batko; great-grandchildren, John and Kristal Cummings, and Victoria and Lauren Dague; son-in-law, Richard Dolney; sister-in-law, Helen (Shadio) Varhola; many nieces and nephews; grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her loving and devoted daughter, Georgiann Patricia Dolney; sisters, Mary Agnes (Stephen) Kuker, Helen (Joseph) Zugay, Margaret (Michael) Chornyak, and Agnes (Elmer) Eichenlaub; brothers, Steven (Laura Rappa), John (Twila Miller), William (Ann Soley), Andrew, and Michael (Eve Soley); sisters-in-law, Julia (Constantine) Marino, Mary (Leonard) Zaski, Anna (Louis) Nemec, and Helen Batko; brothers-in-law, Michael (Charlotte Moore), John (Geraldine Halahan), Stephen (Helen Foremsky), Frank (Gilda), and Richard Andrew (Kay Kuntz). She was the last surviving sibling of the Varhola family. Friends will be received Thurs. 2-4, 6-8 p.m. in the EDWARD P. KANAI FUNERAL HOME, 500 Greenfield Ave. Funeral Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by Funeral Divine Liturgy celebrated by Her nephew, Msgr. Russell Duker in St. John Chrysostom B.C. Church at 10:00 a.m. Parastas Thurs. at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
