CHARLES WILBUR
Age 79, of Pleasant Hills, passed away on the 27th day of November, 2012 at Jefferson Regional Hospital in Jefferson Hills, PA. Charles Wilbur Diller was born on January 24, 1933 in Lincoln Place, PA. He was the beloved husband for 57 years of Betty Stefanic Diller. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Wilbur L. Diller and Florence Caldwell Diller, as well as his sister, the late Marilyn Medve. He is survived by his loving children, Susan (Patrick) Francis, Linda (John) Doherty and Charles J. (the late Lori Hartman) Diller; the beloved grandfather of Kelsey (Casey) Cramer, Ryan Francis, Kara Francis and Kaitlyn Francis, Shalynn Doherty, Jenna Doherty and Michael Doherty. Charles has one great-grandson, Caleb Cramer. Chuck grew up in Munhall, PA. He graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh, PA in 1951. After high school, he attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Upon graduating from the ROTC program, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. Chuck attended pilot school serving in Fairbanks, Alaska, and later served in the reserves as an Air Police Officer. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1970 while holding the rank of Captain. In 1959, he began working for Diller Insurance Agency, Inc., and became Owner and President until he retired in 1992. Chuck loved being active in supporting the local community including donating educational materials and giving donations to various charities. For many years, Chuck was a joyful Santa for children with special needs. Chuck was a past President of the South Hills Pitt Club. He was a master mason, 32nd degree. Chuck belonged to the Blue Lodge in Homestead - Amity - McCandless Lodge #582, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Pittsburgh Consistory and was a member of the Syria Temple, a part of Shriners International. He was a past President of McKeesport Caravan #4. Chuck was a member of Pleasant Hills American Legion Post #712, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge, Hays, PA and member of the Elks in Homestead, PA. Chuck was an avid Steeler fan with season tickets dating back to the opening of Three Rivers Stadium. He enjoyed wood-working and made toys for all of his grandchildren. Chuck had a rich, full life and had a special gift of making people laugh. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 301 Curry Hollow Rd., Pleasant Hills, where a service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. The family requests memorial donations be made to Saint Peter Episcopal Church, 4048 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15227 or the .
