JAMES TUNIE Obituary
JAMES W., Sr.
85, of Homestead, passed away at home on Saturday, December 15, surrounded by his family. Mr. Tunie was the proprietor of the TUNIE FUNERAL HOME, INC., a family owned business servicing Homestead and the surrounding communities since 1960. He is preceded in death by beloved eldest daughter, Terri Tunie Reed. He leaves to cherish his memory former wife, companion, and devoted caregiver during his illness, Evelyn E. Tunie; devoted children, James W. (Maryann Bola) Tunie, Jr., Linda (Gary) McGhee, Tamara Tunie (Gregory) Generet, Stacey Tunie, Michelle (Gregory) Lockley; and ten grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday December 20, 2-9 at TUNIE FUNERAL HOME, 218 E. 11th Avenue, Homestead. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 21, 11:00 a.m. at Clark Memorial Baptist Church, 1301 Glenn Street, Homestead with the Rev. James Douglas Burwell officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Mr. Tunie's name to the American Cancer Society or the Juvenile Diabetes Association.

I am especially remembering my high school best friend´s Dad today, since I just lost my Mom on the 7th. I hope they are saying hello to each other in Heaven now. Lots of love and hugs to my Tunie friends today.

I just found out about Jim's passing. I'm sure he left many wonderful memories for a wonderful family - one I was blessed to spend time with before I left Pittsburgh.
I still think of Terri all the time, and I know that she and her father had a very happy reunion in Heaven.

Sorry for the loss of such a great man. Very considerate and personable but most of all able to apply resolution to issues of various situations. May God be with Mr.Tunie and the family.My family and I will sadly miss him.He was a great asset to Pittsburg communities.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I remember Mr. Tunie asking who would sing for his funeral after my sister past. Well now she is singing for Mr. Tunie as he enters heavens gates. What a Blessing Mr. Tunie has been not only to my family but thoughout the Homestead Community. Truly one of God's best gone home.

To the Short family, Jimmy was family. He laughed with us and cried with us. He was with us during happy times and those hard times when our hearts were breaking. He made sure that our loved ones were sent on their final journey with dignity and grace. His passing leaves a hole in many hearts and he will be missed. To the Tunie Family, our family, we were saddened to hear about Uncle Jimmy passing. He was a great comfort and blessing to me when my mother Doris Bright and father James passed in 1990. He would call me in the early years just to see if I was ok and making my mom proud, he encouraged me. When a family/friend from Homestead passed and I called the funeral home it was always a pleasure speaking with him, he was always genuinely concerned about me "baby girl".Our prayers are with you. To my extended family and I do mean MY FAMILY, Uncle Jimmy has been a terrfic father figure to me since my dad died ( Edwin P. Cyrus)December 1990m their friendship carreid onto me and I will forever be thankful to him whether he was sitting right next to me or looking down at me from Heaven, he was a part of my children's life he did all he could do for us in place of my dad. I would run into him from time to time and he always greeted me with a hug and kiss on the cheek. Always treated me as if I was one of his children, that always put a smile in my heart.
