Obituary Condolences

Age 85, of Moon Twp., passed away at Heritage Valley Sewickley, Dec. 22, 2012, he was born in Benwood, WV, August 6, 1927 to the late Harry W. and Josephine Nolan Bartels. William was a veteran of the Navy during WWll after which he attended College, and in 1951, Mr. Bartels graduated from West Liberty State College, located in West Liberty, West Virginia, with a B.S. in Mathematics and minor in Physics. While attending West Liberty from 1947-51, he was a member of the Hill toppers football team, who, under legendary coach Joe Bartell, compiled a 36-1-3 record, including bowl game victories in the Smokey Mountain Bowl against West Carolina and the Pythion Bowl against Appalachian State. He was a retired Manager of Physical Testing for the Bayer Corp., a Member of St. Margaret Mary Church, and the American Legion, also an avid Fighting Irish of Notre Dame Fan. He was predeceased by his wife, Elvira Flores Bartels on Aug. 2, 1998; and by a sister, Peggy Bartels. William is survived by his five children, Patrick J. (Stephanie) Bartels, Allentown, NJ, Katherine A. (Robert) Rizzo, Hopewell Twp., Michael W. Bartels, Moon Twp., Deborah A. (Thomas) Martz, Franklin Park, and Timothy L. Bartels of Moon Twp.; also eight grandchildren, Danielle, Mackenzie, Katie, Cassidy, Sam, Nick, Molly, and Macey. Friends will be received Wed. and Thurs. 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the COPELAND MOON TWP. FUNERAL HOME, 981 Brodhead Road, where Prayers will be recited Friday at 9 a.m. followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret Mary Parish with Father Andrew Fischer Celebrant, interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Moundsville, WV with Military Honors.
